With similar prices across the board, it’s time to bring out the side notes. JB Hi-Fi is offering the best value per pre-order, with every purchase also getting a Wii U “starter pack.” These packs contain a GamePad silicon cover, a GamePad stylus and two screen protectors. On the other hand, for those looking to get into the New Console Launch Experience of Fantasicalness™ may want to consider going to EB Games instead, given a midnight launch is much more likely.
Update: Big W Deal
Big W are usually the cheapest, even if it is only for a couple days. This time around, they’re good but not the best. For the Basic Set you have $338 and for the Premium it’s $418.
Looks like Big W have come through after all, online and in store the Premium Wii U console will be $358! All you have to do is follow that link just there before, use this code XMASEDM20 and you’ll get that price. This price only applies online but you should still be able to pick it up for $378 in store.
Update: JB Hi-Fi Deal
It’s the week of the Wii U launch and JB Hi-Fi have now added their Wii U launch deals and pricings to their website. JB Hi-Fi on Friday will be selling the Basic Wii U set for $299, matching that or K-Mart. The Premium Set will set you back $399 if you fancy yourself some Nintendo Land and extras.
In addition to this when you do purchase a Wii U from JB Hi-Fi you can pick from the following 10 games for $40, the selection isn’t the best of the best but there’s still some good games in there.
- 30 Family Games
- Mass Effect 3: Special Edition
- Tekken Tag Tournament 2: Wii U Edition
- Marvel: Avengers
- Ben 10: Omniverse
- FIFA12
- Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed
- Just Dance 4
- Tank! Tank! Tank!
- Sports Connection
Update: Target Deal
Target have now revealed their deal and it’s a Premium Wii U Set + Just Dance 4 for $429. So if you’re going to buy Just Dance 4 anyway, you might want to pick it up from Target. It could save you potentially up to $69.
Update: K-Mart Bargain Alert (25/11)
K-Mart has now thrown their hat into the ring with a really great deal on Wii U systems. You’ll looking at $299 for the Basic Wii U Set and $379 for the Wii U Premium Set. According to a post on OzBargain, K-Mart usually don’t do pre-orders but for the Wii U they are and they can be done at the stores service desk for a $40 deposit. This is likely to the be the best price you see on a Wii U for a while. It’s essentially the same as the US pricing.
In addtion: K-Mart will also have a selection of games for $59 and $69, we’ve updated the table below with their pricing.
Update: Big W Bargain Alert
Big W has got a code on their website that offers $40 off when you spend $300 or more off your first purchase online. What’s more than $300? A Wii U of course.
Enter the code XMASEDM40 on their online store and you’ll be able to get a Wii U Premium Set for $388 and a Basic Set for $308.
Then of course you have to wait for it to be delivered but it’s not a bad deal.
Note: no announcements have been made by any retailers regarding midnight launches. We’ll keep you updated when word hits the wind.
Wii U Games
There’s a load of Wii U games out for launch, finding them for cheap is going to be really easy with our guide below. Keep in mind that stores update their prices almost daily and these might not be the latest. We’ll update as soon as we can but you’ll have to check yourself.
We’ll be adding more stores to the list as soon as they start listing them all.
*Prices were correct as of November 25th. If there’s changes let us know!
Wii U Accessories
As the launch of the Wii U is getting closing accessory makers and Nintendo themselves will be out in force getting you to protect, cover, clean and add on to your Wii U.
I guess I will probably buy the console at EB because I’m a sucker for a midnight launch! Thanks to Vooks I may step into Harvey Norman for the first time in years just to get those bargain games! JB which is my regular haunt is apparently missing out on my cash!
Good work putting this together! I’ll be following this closely. No doubt prices will drop closer to the launch as the various retailers start competing (like they did with the 3DS XL etc.), I wonder what my chances are of getting the premium pack for around $400 and NSMBU for around $70…
HN is that for Aussie stock or Europe? I haven’t been able to find out. Not that it matters i guess.
The prices are from the Aussie HN site proper, not the direct imports one, so it’s safe to assume it’d be retail stock.
Harvey Norman have had a cheaper brand new game policy for a few months now, since Skyrim came out, have been going there ever since!
78 for a Pro Controller seems a bit rich though, will probably just use the controller I got with Monster Hunter Tri for a while.
As soon as my money appears on my credit card, I’ll be pre-ordering the Premium Wii U at JB HiFi. I refuse to pay $30 for express post from EB Games just so I can get it on release day. I had no idea about Harvey Norman offering cheap Wii U games however, may have to shop there! Also the $78 for a Pro Controller at EB Games is just an inflated guess by EB, I expect it to cost much less. I saw that they changed their price of the GamePad from $100 to $200 once they realised how expensive it was in Japan.
JB have said each game is $99 but they will most certainly offer the best price shortly before the release. Better they over estimate than under. This isn’t new, they’ve done that for as long as they’ve been selling games.
My local Harvey Norman said they will take a pre-order and happily switch it to a bundle if/when it is introduced
Hi! EB games have updated some more prices! Sports connection is $68 etc
JB HiFi have listed BLOPS2 on their website for $99 and Epic Mickey 2 for $79 as a pre-order bonus.
Thanks Vooks! Keep those updates rolling in 🙂
Hey Vooks any information on upcoming pre-order deals? At the moment it seems like only JBHIFI has some sort of bonus, all other retailers are pretty stock.
Still on the look out!
Oz Game Shop has some cheap pre-orders on games and accessories
NSMBU for $59! (you will have to wait for it to be posted however.)
http://www.ozgameshop.com/wii-u/
WOWHD are offering NSMBU for $56.76…. http://www.wowhd.com.au/games/new-super-mario-bros-u-nintendo-wii-u/dp/31331143#bc=2b48
The premium Wii U bindle for $399 at FishPond http://www.fishpond.com.au/0018113997858
Swanston St EB Games in Melbourne have told me that they are going to hold a Wii U midnight launch on the Nintendo Experience level.
My EB have announce a midnight launch (Strathpine,Brisbane). With a wii u and a SNES to play before midnight.
JB Hi-Fi have lowered heaps of their game prices over the past day or so, so you may want to update your list 🙂
Only so many hours in the day…
I pre-ordered Scribblenauts from JB, it’s listed in-store at $99, though the lady at the counter informed me it’d change price on the morning of the launch, most likely to what the online price is.
yeah definitely 🙂
Pre-order bonus at BigW (free silicon glove valued at $15) – http://www.bigw.com.au/entertainment/video-games-consoles/wii/wii-consoles/bpnBIGW_9999999000449/wii-u-black-premium-console-with-bonus-wii-u-silicon-glove.
the BIGW 40 bucks off over 300 is ended now though? Link above is still up but it states beneath it ‘valid from 15/11/12 to 21/11/12’ – maybe shlda jumped on it before but was still tossing up the purchase and didn’t see that
Unfortunately yes, you’re right. You can still get $10 off your order though by entering the code XMASEDM10 at checkout as long as you pick the bundle with the silicon glove as it splits the order into 2 deliveries which is what the promotion requires. (the price is the same as buying it without a glove too) Hope that helps.
JB Hi-Fi have their accessory prices up now 😀

Dick Smith have updated their Wii U game prices:
BLOPS2 – $89.95
Nintendo Land – $69.95
NSMBU – $69.95
Just Dance 4 – $59.95
Zombie U – $74.95 (Cheapest I’ve seen)
Assassins Creed 3 – $74.95 (Cheapest I’ve seen)
FIFA2013 – $89.95
Haha nice, just saw this on OzBargain, thank you based K-Mart! Will be cancelling my EB pre order.
I wish I had seen the $40 off BIG W promotion before it expired. Oh well. The $10 off promotion is still valid for a few days so I cancelled my JB order and jumped ship to BIG W. Also used a $19 WISH gift card I forgot I had so the total for my Deluxe Wii U came to $399! Now I can use the extra $30 towards buying NSMBU off the eShop.
I would’ve jumped on the K-Mart deal had it not been an instore only offer. I can only buy things online as there is only a Target Country where I live lol.
Just to repeat: The $40 off BIG W promotion has expired. Instead, you can get $10 off your second order by entering the code XMASEDM10 at checkout when you buy a Wii U bundle with the silicon glove as it splits the order into two deliveries and so it meets the requirements for the $10 promotion. (and since it costs the same as buying the console without the glove there’s no reason not to choose it.)
Just rang my local Kmart – they said deposit was $10 but the consoles were the regular price… More calls to be made
Hi I am wanting a wii you I work at Kmart my guess is the new catalogue will begin on launch day or Thursday this week as the current catalogue expires the 28th
I called my local Kmart and they said you can’t do preorders for the Wii U :S
There are no preorders don’t know who said that if oz gamer is indeed correct should be on sale from launch day
I visited K-Mart, Broadway today and asked about the Wii U price. The store clerk said the price wasn’t available yet.
This is exciting, shops are starting to play ball. A free game from Target, even if it is Just Dance 4, is better than a cheap screen protector from JB Hi-Fi.
Went to my local Kmart at Blacktown this morning and put a $40 deposit on the Wii U Premium pack. If the console is physically in the store, it’ll be available for sale midnight Thursday since Blacktown is a 24-hour Kmart!
My plan of attack: Having traded in a lot of games to almost cover the full Premium Pack’s balance, I need to stick to my EB pre-order. If I price-match my EB pre-order to Kmart’s price, I can use the trade-in value left over towards a pro controller or game.
Have not got that many issues with the launch games, maybe Mass Effect 3 for the multi, Darksiders 2 (off-screen play!).
Got two preordered at Kmart, $80 down, the people at the service desk new nothing about it at all.
Ok, why did all these pre order deals suddenly pop up overnight? Now that JB’s lowered their price, I had to cancel the BIG W order I made yesterday and keep the original JB order I had. I’m hoping everything will work out and not stuff up on me!
EB will price match JB and K-Mart, just confirmed. They just have to ring them whenever you go to pick it up and if the other stores have it in stock, they will price match.
Lucky, because I traded in old games to EB to get the 30% bonus towards a Wii U. But it’s all worked out now!
Yup can second this. Rang my local EB and they won’t price match on midnight launch but will during business hours same day.
Didn’t say anything about calling other stores. I will just make them call every single K-Mart in Victoria until one has one in stock if they play that card.
The Kmart has to be LOCAL, not on the other side of Victoria, or even Melbourne for that matter.

Thanks tp Voosk for their info, great! I finally placed my $40.00 deposit after speaking to the manager at Kmart who wasn”t aware of the pre order on the Wii U, until he checked with the neglected office emails. You are RIGHT you CAN make a Pre-order of the Wii U at Kmart, but …full payment is to be made on the launch day – Friday. Unfortunately it’s not available in Rundle mall’s Adelaide’s Kmart
I cancelled my Big W preorder when Kmart announced their prices. Hopefully there will be lots to go around come friday.
Cancelling my BIG W order is turning into a nightmare. I have to wait until Friday before they manually refund the money to my credit card. In the meantime JB has just charged me for my pre-order which declined because I’m waiting for the BIG W refund. I then saw that online orders had SOLD OUT for the Wii U at JB and I had to use PayPal to pay for it to ensure I actually get a Wii U. I’m going on a holiday next week and now I’ve got money issues.
Just for everyone to be aware, JB has SOLD OUT of Wii U’s online, indicating that we may be seeing stock shortages for other stores too.
I preordered and fully paid for my Wii U and 6 games today at JB…no hassles, price matched with Kmart and its all good.
EB blows.
Big W now offering Wii U Deluxe for $378
Was thinking of cancelling at Big W, glad I didn’t now!
i just got the wii u online at big w gig premium pack with a free silicon remote case for $358 using the discount code and free delivery to my door
if you purchase the wii u online at big w you get a free silcon case with the 32gig premium console free delivery for $358 using a coupon code i just saved big $$$
Just picked up my JB hi-fi pre-order. They price-matched BigW $379 for Premium console, just didn’t include the “Wii pre-order bonus pack (controller silicon sleeve)” as it’s not part of the price match, easy!
