Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS amiibo enabling update hits today
Nintendo has announced that the update for Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS which enables amiibo functionality on the New Nintendo 3DS will launch today. That’s February 10th for our hemispherically challenged friends in the north.
This update has been a long time coming but with only us Aussies and the Japanese the only people in the world so far with the New 3DS it makes sense for the rest of the world to catch up before unleashing it on everyone.
The full details of how the amiibo functionality works on the 3DS haven’t been revealed just yet, hopefully it works the same way as well as with the Wii U version.
This update of course only affects players on the New Nintendo 3DS as it has the NFC reader built in under the screen. The announced adapter for the older model hasn’t been seen in some time.
We’re not sure exactly what time the update will hit today, but if we find out we’ll let you know.
Hope there is a bit of fanfare – it is a pretty big deal and the first of many such app;actions to come with amiibo on the 3DS. At least an email from Nintendo Australia to notify gamers of the update and to hype up the amiibo engine even more.
I feel like I’m too late to get on the Amiibo bandwagon. Are the more common ones still readily available?
Yeah Mario, Link, Pikachu are pretty much everywhere. Keep an eye out everytime you go to the shops, the less common ones are around too. Ike, Shulk, Marth all but gone.
That’s good to know. I gotta fight the urge to collect em all and I’ll be fine 😛
