New 3DS firmware brings save data backup, StreetPass DLC and new puzzles.
Nintendo has pushed a new firmware update for the Nintendo 3DS live. It adds the ability to backup save game data for downloadable versions of Nintendo 3DS games and most Virtual Console games.
It also does the old ‘improved system stability and usability’ that we all know and love.
There are also new New Super Mario Bros U, Skyward Sword, Xenoblade and an all-girl Heroines StreetPass puzzles. Which one you get seems to be random.
That’s not even the best past though, the Mii Plaza has received a total upgrade and makeover. The original two StreetPass games are still there but now there’s a Shop and Exchange Booth. In the shop you are able to purchase (with real money) four new StreetPass games. They are called StreetPass Squad, StreetPass Garden, StreetPass Battle and StreetPass Mansion.
StreetPass Squad is similar to StreetPass Quest but take places in space as you battle the Gold Bone Gang. In StreetPass Garden you move into a house in Leafington and try to become a Master Gardener. Mr Mendel is your tutor for this one as he helps you grow flowers and decorate your garden.
StreetPass Battle is a game of luck, You rule over a remote country in a land stricken by war. Along with Wentworth, your butler you build an army via StreetPass and battle other generals. Your goal: Take over the world. More details on StreetPass Mansion and the prices in AUD for the games are still forthcoming, the Mii Plaza currently crashes when you attempt to buy them.
You are able to purchase all of the StreetPass games at once, however if you only buy one then decide on the others you won’t get the discount.
The exchange booth allows you to swap Plaza Tickets for new Mii accessories, including hats and other yet unannounced items. The Plaza Tickets only work in the new StreetPass games, not the originals.
If you’re big into StreetPass these cheap downloadable titles may be for you.
UPDATE 20/6 : It appears an update has been pushed out, fixing the crashes many EU and AU 3DS consoles were having. You can now access the shop to get the 4 new games, which are $6.50 AUD each, or $19.50 AUD for the combo pack. To access the combo pack, just go through to the buy screen of your first game.
We have to buy Streetpass games now? If other people don’t have the games it still works right?
Sounds like a reasonable update. But I’m still itching for a proper account system so my downloadable titles don’t disappear if my system gets lost/stolen.
Backup saves is likely the first step toward this.
2 step download.. download the update then download the Streetpass Update from the plaza. 1st part took about 10 mins, on the second now..
OMG Take my money nowww!!! 🙂
So cool!
Wish the shop didn’t crash tho 🙁
Yeah I’ve tried to download battle but as soon as I select it, it crashes
faster, encounters now go past 99.. but buggy :/
I noticed it says change “outifts”. No longer says hats. Seems we may be able to get clothing for our Mii now. I like the idea of this new games, though not a fan of paying real money for it, especially that i seems to get hardly no hits on Street Pass to begin with. So um yeah! As long as i can use Play Coins in the games (like Street Mansion) then i may purchase it. I like the look of the Street Pass Mansion the most!
“If other people don’t have the games it still works right?”
I imagine it would be the “if they are in your plaza you can use them” kind of mentality.
Sounds like an awesome update!!
I really hope this actually is a step in the direction of a proper account direction!!
did you also notice how they finally added australia and its regions to the streetpass map? pretty cool
I’m surprised they weren’t included already :I
It’s cool to be getting more content for the StreetPass Plaza, and I appreciate the Mr. Mendel joke for StreetPass Garden.
Now if only the new games don’t cost too much…
Wow how weird, just a couple days ago I was thinking that a backup function for digital games would be good.
Still crashes when trying to buy games here. Also randomly crashes when scrolling through Mii Plaza….
Anyone else getting crashes?
Oh wow, 5 friends online while I’m checking out the Mii Plaza update. 4 of them are playing Animal Crossing: New Leaf. Should I take that as a hint?
I’m also starting to think buying a Wii U would be a good idea…
That has been happening to me too. The StreetPass Plaza app has been running a lot more smoothly, but when scrolling through, it’s having to load more Miis in a shorter space of time, which would probably explain the crashes. Hopefully Nintendo will rectify this with another system update asap.
The update is live! It not longer crashes when you try to download the bulk pack. The date is June 20 and about 10 past 8 in the morning.!!!!!!!!
Are you sure? I checked system and in the plaza, but I didn’t get an update… You are talking about an update for the update, right?
Just got patched. Combo pack is $19.50 or $6.50 per game. Bit steep. I was expecting $15 for the pack or $5 each. But… eh…
