3DS firmware update adds StreetPass relay support
Nintendo has pushed up a new system update for the Nintendo 3DS which adds support for the StreetPass Relay feature.
You’ll now be able to StreetPass with people at at Nintendo Zone Spots, you won’t actually have to be there at the same time as another person. Instead the spot will remember the last person and then you’ll StreetPass with them. The next person will get you.
This new StreetPass Relay will be great in countries and regions that are less densely populated. So basically everywhere but Japan.
We’ve contacted Nintendo Australia to ask if this feature is coming to Australia in some form or another as we don’t have Nintendo Zone spots.
The update also makes ‘further improvements to overall system stability’ just like usual too.
Update: Nintendo Australia have got back to us with the “We don’t have anything to announce at this time” line. Considering we don’t have Nintendo Zone spots our solution may take longer to implement. We’ll bug them again in a couple of weeks if we don’t hear anything.
Got all excited, until i read that Australia, yet again, is given the shaft.
You know what Nintendo. No wonder you are loosing sales and getting a bad rep. This is stupid, you do not support the little people, we make up a lot of your sales, so why not show some love. Or at least do what the Vita system has and have a Near application.
I don’t think anyone, ever had used Near.
Actually, a lot of people use the vita’s Near app. That is how i keep getting FR on my system 🙁 . Also using it gives bonus’ and what not to games that register to the Near app.
Either way, i hope that Nintendo do something to help us get street passes, i get maybe 1 when i visit the shops and i am not at the shop for an hour, usually several, as the misses wants to shop!
We make up a lot of their sales? You might want to look at their latest results then. 10000 Wii U’s sold in the ENTIRE PAL region. Australia probably contributed the least to that total.
Game wise… not console wise.
I’m one of the lucky ones that lives in a capital city (Brisbane). I get tons of street passes when I walk around the CBD. I always have my 3DS with me when I go to the city.
I actually have the Nintendo Zone application on my 3DS, it downloaded over SpotPass when I was on a holiday to Europe, it downloaded in London.
Let me know when they make it possible to reconfigure the buttons for Virtual Console games like you can on the Wii U.
I loathe the exclusive use of the A & B buttons for GB/GBC/GBA games, would be infinitely superior if we could set it to use Y & B or X & A instead.
Oh and 2 buttons to access the Virtual Console Menu? Really? I find myself frequently triggering that by mistake because of the dumb button layout (Yes, it’s the same layout those systems used, but still…). Just have Select access the menu, no need for 2 buttons o_O
