Update: Nintendo Australia have confirmed that both colours of New Nintendo 2DS XL are coming to Australia and New Zealand on June 15th, with a suggested retail price of AU$199.95.
Nintendo of America has announced the New Nintendo 2DS XL announced, it sounds like a joke but it isn’t.
The console is a 2DS, so it has no 3D but has the flip screen design of a 3DS. It’s also ‘New’ so it has all the advanced processing features from the New 3DS and amiibo functionality built in.
It’s out this July in America, Japan and Europe.

As a ‘New’ console will it also be able to play the SNES games from VC?
It should be able to yes.
And Nintendo continue to wring every last dollar from the 3DS platform. Meanwhile, production of the NES Mini is stopped well short of demand.
There must be logic there but I just can’t work it out.
The rumours are saying they discontinued production to start pumping out “Snes mini” if it is true.
I’m getting the feeling it’s to do with future Virtual Console plans on the Switch. They don’t want to diminish the value of their new paid online service or they want people downloading the games on to their Switch rather than getting the NES Mini.
Or we could call it a ‘ DS advance’ …lol
Our Glorious Leader Tom Enoki does it again!
Actually they have a new boss!
that blue and black one <3
Okay – love the colours and the enhanced(?) design. IF ONLY it had replaceable faceplates like the New 3DS I would have traded in… well not my limited edition Momster Hunter XL – but I would have gotten one lol
Love this idea. Would have loved to have seen it years ago. My 3ds currently has a minor screen defect that would cost a fortune to fix because of “3d screens”. These 2d screens backed by the new hardware are exactly what I want in my hand-held unit.
