Launch Events
EB Games Swanston Street Midnight Launch
There’s only one midnight launch for Mario Kart 8 so far and you guessed correctly, it’s at EB Games Swanston Street in Melbourne. The event kicks off at 10pm May 30th and will have a live DK, frozen slushies, Nintendo themed balloon twisting and more.
You will need to preorder the game at the store to be able to attend. Find out more information here on the event’s Facebook page.
If other stores open up we’ll update this article.
Gamesmen’s Mario Kart 8 Race Day Competition
Gamesmen are holding a Mario Kart 8 launch day event. Simply preorder the game at the store (which is a cheap $64) and go into the competition. If you’re the a winner of the competition you could take home the game for free. There’s three age divisions and prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Mario himself will be the there too!
Find out more information on the Facebook event page.
A live Donkey Kong! Sounds rather exciting! Could be dangerous though, dodging barrels and all just to get your copy of MK 8! Lol
Target has it for $59.99 online (not sure about in-store) – http://www.target.com/p/mario-kart-8-nintendo-wii-u/-/A-15044634
That be Target USA!
You should also mention the current eShop promotion where you can get $10 off the digital version by buying Super Mario Kart.
Not to mention if you’re a premium Wii U owner you basically get $7 eShop credit with that purchase as well.
Good point, will add it to the article asap!
That is the USA Target, this is the AUS bargain roundup.
Is it safe to assume that the eShop price will be the same as the EB Games price ($79.95)?
It probably should be mentioned that you can take advantage of the Super Mario Kart eShop promo ($10.40 discount on the eShop version of Mario Kart 8 when you buy Super Mario Kart, which itself is $10.40) alongside the Club Nintendo free game promo above.
I’ll definitely be going the eShop route for this game! Price is $79.95, but because I spent $1.95 on upgrading Super Mario Kart, I get $10.40 off MK8, bringing it down to $69.45! Then I’ll also get $7 credit from the DDP, effectively making it $62.45 and suddenly becoming the cheapest way to get the game! Then you get a free game on top of that. Crazy stuff 🙂
D’oh! I looked it up a couple of weeks ago, so when I saw this with no mention of Target, I thought I’d found a deal. Sorry Daniel!
JBs price is $69 on launch and the Bundle is $419
It is in the new cataloge that came out today. Website prices havn’t been updated
Do you have a photo or link? Can’t update unless I see myself!
Next week’s Target and BIg W catalogues won’t be available online until Monday at the earliest.
Uk version is on wowhd.com.au for 66 bucks and free shipping…don’t think you will get the game code though.
Didn’t have a Wii U. Just bought the EB Games Mario Kart 8/Skylanders bundle. Awesome deal.
$58 at Big W according to their latest print catalogue (it’s not available online yet)
It will be $58 at Big W!
A scanned image of the catalogue showing that price can be seen here:

$58 at Big W!
$399 for Premium Pack
The eShop updated recently with a page for Mario Kart 8, confirming a price of $79.95. With the $10.40 discount from Super Mario Kart, that brings it down to $69.55.
Any chance of being able to price match elsewhere using Big W’s price?
I price matched my copy of Super Mario 3D World with JB Hi-Fi using BIG W’s price, and according to my friend who asked, JB Hi-Fi will price match his pre-ordered copy of Mario Kart 8 with BIG W’s price.
Buuuuuuut… it will probably depend on who you talk to in store. It never hurts to ask, at least.
Prices have been updated on JB’s website

I’m super pumped for MK8. Judging by the chatter on here and Whirlpool, it’s also generating interest in the Wii U.
Just looked at Target’s latest Play catalogue and they’ve got it for $58. With the $10 discount you get when you sign up to their online mailing list, that brings it down to a scant $48. Not too shabby, especially as it comes with a free game.
Does anyone have the Kmart price, for just the game disc? Their catalogue only advertises the bundle.
Yeah the JB HiFi price is $419, not $399 – unless that $399 is an in-store only promo or something.
Be quick at Big W.
My store has 30 copies of Mario Kart 8.
The customer service counter should have a copy of the ‘Family and Friends’ discount coupon with barcode to scan with your purchase. Be sure to ask them about it.
Think about getting a Wii U controller while you are there too.
Picked up my copy of Mario Kart 8 this afternoon. Was the last copy at Big W store.
It could be awhile getting new supplies in.
