Zelda producer: Expect surprises at E3 2010

Eiji Aonuma has told Zelda fans to expect something very different happening in the world of Zelda in the lead-up to next years E3

The mastermind behind every Zelda masterpiece since Ocarina of Time (with the exception of Minish Cap) spoke to Official Nintendo Magazine about Link’s next venture on Wii- "It is something we used to talk about with Mr Miyamoto, and he and I agree that if we are following the same structure again and again, we might not be able to give long time Zelda fans a fresh surprise."

Aonuma also hinted at how the next Wii Zelda will implement motion controls- "We have been trying something new in terms of the structure of the Wii version of the new Zelda game this time. I am really hopeful that people will be surprised with the changes we have implemented for this Wii version."

The existence of the next Wii Zelda has been treated in a very curious manner by Nintendo. Whilst a new, made-for-Wii Zelda has been an easy assumption to make, Nintendo appear to keeping less coy on the game’s development than previous mainline Zelda games. The first revelation of the game’s existence was an image shown by Miyamoto to a select group of journalists at this year’s E3, and later made public do to intense attention from fans, yet no title has been attached to the game. Don’t expect a 2010 release either- an announcement next year could still mean a long wait yet for those hungry for another console-based Zelda adventure.
