Youkai Watch heads out of Japan in 2015
Level-5 president Akihiro Hino has revealed that it’s latest IP Youkai watch will be headed to western shores in 2015.
Speaking on Japanese site ZakZak, Hino had the following to say in regards to the games and franchise heading outside of Japan for the first time. There have been three games released in Japan in the series so far, the first sold over 500,000 copies and a sequel over 1.2 million copies in its first four days on sale.
“In regards too foreign markets, we have been taking a look at it in regards to Yokai Watch. We are in development planning to release it sometime next year. We think it has a big appeal as a very Japanese-ish fantasy story. We already have support from a foreign toy maker company saying that it will be a definite success.”
Youkai Watch tells the story of a boy who has a special watch which allows him to see and interact with ghosts. He can then battle (very similar to Pokemon) with other ghosts with his own set of ghosts.
Meanwhile this year we’ll be able to devolve into Level-5’s Fantasy Life which is released here in Australia on September 27th.
