Yooka-Laylee will also get a retail release
Yooka-Laylee has been on a whirlwind ever since it’s Kickstarter campaign, it’s bringing back 90s platformers for a new generation and reviving the genre. There’s just one thing that’s not been so 90s about it.
It’s a digital game.
Well the folks at Playtonic Games are crossing that off the list too, Yooka-Laylee will also be getting a retail, physical release at the same time it releases digitally in Q1 2017. They made the following blog post this morning;
One such query we’re delighted to tackle today is the ever-booming call for a boxed version of Yooka-Laylee. Do we have plans for a boxed release? Today we can confirm that the answer is, yes!
We’re delighted to be able to offer Yooka-Laylee in both digital and boxed flavours in time for the game’s launch in Q1 2017. As we speak, our business badgers are busily burrowing away on an initiative that will allow Kickstarter backers to upgrade their digital pledge to a physical version, if they choose to do so. We’re not ready to share the exact details just yet, but very soon you should be able to stick your head in the badger hole and look for yourself.
It still remains to be seen what systems and regions will get a boxed copy outside of Kickstarter backers, but it’s happening. There’s still one question though, will it actually be a box?
