Yooka-Laylee finally set for Switch on December 14

After long last Playtonic Games have finally given a release date for the Switch version of Yooka-Laylee, the good news is the that the game will be released this year.

A brand new trailer not only shows the game running on the Switch but also that it’ll be released on December 14th. You’ll be able to preload the game from December 7th.

The Playtonic team has spent many, many months optimising Yooka-Laylee for Nintendo Switch (with technical help and support from Nintendo and Unity themselves!) and we believe we’re delivering a version Nintendo fans can be proud of.

Players can expect a quality experience both on and away from the television and on top of that, Switch players will benefit from the huge list of updates we’ve added since launch such as a brand new camera mode, control improvements, menu options, music… and a lot more!

According to a post on IGN, backers of the game who originally chose the now-canceled Wii U version will receive a Switch code on launch day. The Switch version also now has an internal achievement system, single Joy-Con support for multiplayer games and has all the changes implemented into the game like new camera controls that the Xbox and PlayStation versions got post-release.

Playtonic has worked with Nintendo, Unity and even Team 17 to get the game working smoothly and as optimised as possible on the Switch. The game will run at 900p in docked mode and 600p in handheld mode. The UI will be rendered at 1080p.

Yooka-Laylee will also be only released on the eShop at this stage.

Will you be picking up Yooka-Laylee on the Switch or have you already checked it out on another console? Let us know in the comments.

Good, I have been waiting for this one on my Switch. Loved BK1&2. Eshop only? No!!! Physical release please Playtonic Games! What is going on? To many games eshop only (ie. RER 1&2, Rocket League), hopefully not going to become a trend?

You can get RE revelations 1 and 2 from the US (import). Also give it time, like with snipperclips and overcooked SE is now gonna be physical so it could be down the track for these indie games, that’s why I am holding out for shovel knight.

Too little too late, the boat has already sailed now. But good for those poor wii u backers I guess.

I was waiting for the switch version of this, but wanted a physical release. Probably right the ship has sailed for many so unlikely to get a physical release now.
RER 1&2: Europe and Australia digital only. America RER 1 physical, RER 2 digital. Japan RER1&2 both physical. Not Fair! Capcom!

Now the grumpy Wii U backers can finally shut up. I already didn’t bother finishing this on PS4 months ago.
All the best to the old Rare chaps in their future endeavors.
