The popular console launched in December 2006 in Japan without Wii Sports as a pack-in, and has only recently slowed down in sales. The recent sales slump has not been ignored by Nintendo President Satoru Iwata who has publicly recognised the Wii’s woes despite it’s healthy lifetime sales. "The speed with which people get tired of any new entertainment is faster in Japan than in overseas markets” said Iwata in an interview with ABS-CBN news earlier this month, and that "The current condition in the Japanese market is not the one we want." The Wii’s sales figures are double that of the 3.9 million Gamecubes sold in Japan.
