A few months ago, North America received quite a significant price cut for the basic Wii console and Wii Sports bundle. The price was dropped from US$249.99 to US$199. According to Nintendos executive vice president of sales and marketing, Cammie Dunaway, times have never been better.
Wii console sales have rocketed up by 85% ever since the price cut, according to Ms. Dunaway. With the mass of new consoles being bought, it is a reasonable assumption that game sales will be up in the next few months in the US. Only time will tell.
Although sales in the US are booming, sales in Japan and other regions are still down, which is resulting in a cut in Wii production. A price cut for Australia is yet to be announced, if at all. Perhaps Nintendo will see the wonders the discount is doing to American sales and do something similar down here. We can all but hope.
