Wii, DS surpass lifetime NES, Game Boy sales
They are now Nintendos highest-selling consoles, and this really puts it into perspective
In a recent Financial Results Briefing, Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata proclaimed that the Wii has sold over 67.45 million units as of December 2009. This now means that the Wii has become Nintendo’s highest-selling home console of all time, surpassing the NES’s lifetime sales of 61.91 million units. Phwoar!
The CEO’s fetish for big numbers didn’t end there, though. It was also revealed that the combined systems of the Nintendo DS line have sold over 125.13 million units, finally beating sales of all the Game Boy systems at 118.69 million units. Not only are the DS consoles now Nintendo’s highest selling products, but they are now the best-selling handheld consoles in fifty billion years. Hopefully we see it dethrone the PS2 this year, which stands at around 140 million units, to become the best-selling console of all time.
