New sales data for the Wii in Australia has been revealed, more than the HD consoles combined

The Wii may soon be the second most expensive console here in Australia but it doesnt seem to matter to Joe public as over 1,380,000 Wii consoles have been snapped up at retail. It was about 8 months ago that the Wii passed 1 million. GFK Figures also now put the Xbox 360 at 700,000 units sold and about 540,000 PS3’s including the ones given away during the Bravia promotion have been ‘sold’.

We’re doing this story as a marker, as of next month with price drop of the Xbox 360 and PS3 slim arriving it’ll be a different market place – let’s see how it pans out over the next few months and see if the Wii can maintain its lead here in Australia.

Fun Fact, the GameCube only sold 160,000 units here. Funny how things change isn’t it?
