Now let's get back to the real news.
This week’s rumour was a huge one, it set fire to the Internet and now kind of just solved itself – but let’s take a look at it anyway because of just how well it was done.
We had written this article just minutes before the fakers outed themselves, so forgive any differences in tense.
The Black ‘NX Controller
After the posting of the white NX controller last week, we didn’t expect to see another one so soon. This black NX controller was actually good too because it was a nice high resolution photo, no a silly potato camera shot. The lighting all matched and was in many people’s mind it made it plausible.
This rumour went kind of crazy too, not only were people trying to pick apart the controller from the image but also the surroundings. The faker had put a Wii U GamePad in the shot, a HDMI cable and a MacBook Pro, the first two of those were all seemingly to make it more authentic. Some people even tried to match up a tree and blinds in the photo to a Ubisoft studio in Sweden – insane.
The Verdict
So while I was writing this article and was going to talk about the merits of the controller if it was real or how it could have been faked – then fakers have outed themselves.
The creator of last week’s white controller has outed himself and even made a video of how it was done. He’s then thrown the creator of the other one under the bus and ruined that one as well.
Now let’s all put this behind us until the next fake.
But can you imagine if it was real?
Mario & Luigi: Brothership, Miyamoto and Metal Slug Tactics.
Until you see the price, at least.
Put a pin in it.
