Our last rumour roundup as we enter the world of actual information.
We try to avoid posting rumours as much as possible on Vooks, it’s part of our news policy and has been for years. You all seem to love it. We’ve seen the Switch and what it can do but know almost nothing else about it and what games are coming to it, outside of the trailer at least. So instead of ignoring it, we’re going to collect them and analyse them.
This will be the final ‘This week in’ rumours article we do! After next Friday we’ll have a swarm of real, official and confirmed information and the frequency of rumours will drop right off (it will right, please tell me it will).
We’ll go back to reporting on them as we see fit, but for now – this last week is a doozy. There’s been a ton of fresh rumours, let’s begin.
Aside from the entirely open date of ‘2017’, Breath of the Wild hasn’t had a date locked down further than that. Late last year rumours were abound that the game might miss the Switch’s launch in March despite Nintendo never actually saying it would be there. Now those rumours have been squashed by the very same people who put them out there.
It’s changed now according to Eurogamer.
Breath of the Wild is now said to be coming out alongside the Switch – but only in Japan and North America. Wait what?
The release date for Europe (and possibly Australia) is up in the air due to localisation and translation into multiple languages. Nintendo of Europe want more time with the game, Nintendo HQ want the game out in Japan and North America at launch and don’t seem to be up for waiting for Europe to finish it’s work.
Who knows what to believe here, the release date of Breath of the Wild seems to be changing on a daily basis with different sources telling different news people different stories. If Nintendo did launch Breath of the Wild everywhere but Europe that would suck for them, but it would also do damage to Nintendo Europe if the system is region free. Early adopters aren’t going to wait, they’ll import.
If the game is ready to, then it should go – Nintendo can and have before patched in other languages after a game’s release. Get the game out on launch, we need it, the Switch needs it and it’ll go a long way to showing everyone Nintendo that you can release game day and date.
Prolific Switch rumour monger Laura Kate Dale has again busted open the Ubisoft treasure trove of rumours. This time it’s cult classic Beyond Good & Evil 2, now with the subtitle Odyssey. The game is said to be exclusive to the Switch for 12 months in both digital and physical form. After that 12 months is up then the game will be released digitally on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
The January 13th Switch Presentation is said to close out with this teaser trailer.
I’ll believe Beyond Good & Evil 2 actually exists when I can actually see it on store shelves at this point. Switch exclusive? Timed? Let’s see the game first.
That Rabbids slash Mario RPG that was rumoured to be coming to the Switch? Well it has a name now. It’s allegedly called Rabbids Kingdom Battle. It’s also meant to be coming in September.
But wait, there’s more Ubisoft fun! Rayman Legends is seeing a port to the Switch, it will also be announced during the January 13th presentation but is out in Q2.
The Verdict
For as long as anyone can recall Mother 3 coming to the west has been a ‘thing’. Now it’s coming to the Nintendo Switch in Q2 2017. It will be announced at the January 13th Nintendo Presentation.
The Verdict
Reggie sums it all up we think.
Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town, Rune Factory 5, Rune Factory 4 Special, West…
Mario & Luigi: Brothership, Miyamoto and Metal Slug Tactics.
Until you see the price, at least.
Put a pin in it.
