Ubisoft confirm the game still does exist, and that it's coming too!
Update: Ubisoft Australia has confirmed that the game will be released here in Australia on November 20th as we suspected it might.
Original Story: In news that might surprise some, Ubisoft will be going ahead with the release of the Wii U version of Watch Dogs. The game was previously pushed back on the Wii U to allow Ubisoft to focus on other versions of the title. Ubisoft Romania, located in Bucharest, has since taken over and lead development duties for the port.
Ubisoft announced a release date of November 18th for North America and November 21st in Europe. The game has yet to be dated in Australia, but if Ubisoft tradition persists, we’d take an educated guess and say the game will be hitting our shelves on November 20th that week.
On Wii U, players will be able to view a detailed and interactive map of Chicago, the game world, on the Wii U GamePad. As you’d expect, the game also supports Off-TV Play too. We’d include screenshots, but there’s little to no media provided by Ubisoft for this version of the game.
It’s not known if the Wii U version will contain the game’s unique online mode, which sees players always connected and open to being hacked / intruded upon by other players. It’s also not known if the recently announced downloadable content, which features a new storyline and character to play as, will be coming to the Wii U version either.
Ubisoft previously provided the following response as to why the game was delayed:
“We have our studio in Bucharest working on it, and we wanted that team to have the time to explore the GamePad and be able to have fun with it and see how far they could push it,” he said. “It’s also an interesting platform, because it has its own strength, which we want to take advantage of, and we didn’t want to delay all the other platforms for that one. So we’re going to take the time we need to make sure the game is good (technically) when we ship it and that it also, game design-wise, makes good use of the specifics of the Wii U.”

Visually the game is purported to be closer to the Xbox One and Playstation 4 versions than the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 versions. Alas, when or if we have any more details about the game itself, or localised launch dates, we’ll be sure to keep you updated.
It’s also worth noting that the Wii U version of Watch Dogs will be releasing within a two week period of Assassin’s Creed: Unity, Assassin’s Creed: Rogue, The Crew and Far Cry 4, making it an exceptionally busy period for the publisher.
Will you be grabbing a copy of Watch Dogs on Wii U? Or has the ship long since sailed?
