In tonight’s Nintendo Direct, Nintendo announced that Virtual Console will be coming to Wii U, and games will have new features added for the GamePad. In this service, Nintendo are planning to first release games from Nintendo Entertainment System, Super Nintendo, and GameBoy Advance.

Games will support Off-TV play and save states similar to 3DS Virtual Console games.Nintendo did say that as new features are being added, the Virtual Console games will require a separate purchase to have Wii U exclusive features, however there is some good news for those of you with giant Virtual Console collections already on the Wii.

People who have purchased Virtual Console games on the Wii, and then transferred them across to the Wii U, will be able to purchase these games with the extra Wii U features at a heavily reduced price. Exact Australian prices are yet to be confirmed, but in the US it was announced to be $1 for an NES game, and $1.50 for a Super NES game. The full Virtual Console store will become available in the next Wii U system update, which is expected in our Autumn.
