US Team Deadbeat Wins 2017 Splatoon 2 World Inkling Invitational

It wasn't an easy win, but it was a win.

After hours of intense competition, US team Deadbeat has walked away as the victor of the 2017 Splatoon 2 World Inkling Invitational, taking home an incredible Platinum Squid trophy and each member receiving a super fresh Splatoon-themed medal. The competition didn’t make it easy for them, though.

Deadbeat actually struggled a great deal during the first round, which consisted of a round robin series of Turf Wars matches, where they lost the first two matches and barely pulled through to a close victory in the third. But once they got into the elimination round, which was a best-of-five series of ranked game modes, like Rainmaker and Tower Control, it was Deadbeat’s time to shine, handily winning every match against Australia’s own Blue Ringed Octolings, who put up a good fight but ultimately were unable to take down the American giants.

Finally, it came down to the finale against Japan’s Dynameu, considered by many to be the team to beat. Presenters for the event made the note half a dozen times that Dynameu had beaten literally hundreds of other teams to get there. The finale was a best-of-seven showdown, consisting of a mixture of Turf Wars and Ranked modes. Despite Deadbeat’s underdog status, they managed to score themselves a win on every single match except one, officially earning them the title of the first (of hopefully many) International Splatoon 2 Champions.

You can check out the video of the amazing finale below.
