Out of nowhere Nintendo has dropped a Wii Fit U Direct on us, but the most interesting thing came from the announcements contained after Wii Fit U was done.

Satoru Iwata announced a new version of Wii Sports on the Wii U. Dubbed Wii Sports Club, the game will serve as a hub for all games that featured in Wii Sports. They’ve all been upgraded to HD and Wii Motion Plus controls. Not only that they all have online play and you can also join clubs in your local region to make teams. These teams will be able to compete against each other with leaderboards and rankings,  you can also just verse people in your own club.

All of the games will be coming with Tennis and Bowling released first on November 8th. There will be two ways of buying into Wii Sports Club, the first is a one time fee of $13.00AUD and NZ $17.00 (€9.99/£8.99) for each game/sport. Alternatively you can buy a 24 hour day pass for AU $2.60 and NZ $3.40 (€1.99/£1.79). If you’re unsure there will be a 24 hour trial available for each sport.

For now the game is eShop only but there could be a physical version later. We’ll check for Nintendo for pricing here in Australia.

Update: Article has been updated with Australian prices and release date.

I’m really looking forward to this, though I feel that the asking price (AU$65 for all 5 sports) is a touch too steep for a digital-only port. I may hold out for baseball and boxing to go on sale, but tennis, bowling and golf are day 1 buys.
