In its first half financial year report, Ubisoft has revealed that its Wii titles are not performing that well, while big games like Assassin’s Creed II are softening the blow. "First week sales of Assassin’s Creed II, up 32%, with positive initial indications for the second week, combined with an overwhelmingly warm reception from gamers, validates our strategy of developing bigger franchises." Ubisoft is also pegging its hopes on James Cameron’s Avatar: The Game, as it’s coming out the same day the movie.
It’s no surprise to see Assassin’s Creed II doing well; that’s what happens when you plaster it everywhere and put your top team onto it. It’s also no surprise to see their Wii games not doing as well, mainly due to most of them being rather average. There are exceptions to this of course—Rabbids Go Home and Shaun White Snowboarding: World Stage being great examples of good Wii games. Red Steel 2 is also shaping up well for next year.
Perhaps people are just sick of buying Imagine games and games ending with Z ad nauseum?
