Aussie developers close up shop, staff let go

Australian game developers Krome Studios will close their doors this coming Monday, all studios including Brisbane included. All staff members have been let go, however some staff will be rehired on contacts in order to get outstanding work completed says Tsumea. In August it was reported that Krome Melbourne and Brisbane had cut staff and the Adelaide studio was closed. Krome Studios CEO, Robert Walsh later came out and refuted the claims saying that the reported lay-offs were "pretty out of control".

Krome has been a pillar of strength in the Australian game developer community with their games and original IP Ty the Tasmanian Tiger doing great things on the GameCube, Playstation 2 and Xbox in the past. Since then Krome have been worked on many games including The Legend of Spyro, Viva Piñata: Party Animals, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, Scene It? and the Game Room program for the Xbox Live Arcade.

Their latest game Blade Kitten was only just released weeks ago and early signs showed that it wasn’t performing that well. Krome had at least over 200 employees working for them, however, this figure may be smaller if the earlier layoffs were indeed true.

More news as it happens.

Original Story below ——

We’ve heard this song and dance before, but it looks like this time the axe finally might have swung at Krome. Talk on Twitter is that Krome Brisbane may be in trouble and in fact may have shut down. In addition to the talk of Twitter we’ve seen increased traffic from Queensland locations incoming to Vooks searching for "Krome shut down". While we can’t trace where these searches are coming from, it certainly would appear something is up.

All signs point to bad things at this point, we’ll keep our ear the ground – but it’s not looking good.
