Tony Hawks Pro Skater was a mega hit. Activision took the extreme sport of Skateboarding and turned it into an extremely enjoyable game that could be enjoyed by an amateur but mastered by a pro.
Tony Hawks Pro Skater 4 (THPS4) comes as the 4 th instalment in the series (obviously) and the 2 nd on a next-gen console.
The game is similar to the previous games. You pick a skater, a mode and a level and skate away. You can do all sorts of tricks such as grab moves, flip moves, grinds and lips tricks. Combining an array of these along with manuals and reverts is the key to huge scores.
The career mode has been revamped. Rather then having a 2-minute time limit you have non at all. You can skate around and learn the levels layout. On the topic of levels, they are much bigger then those found in previous incarnations of the game.
Around each level are 16 people (14 in the 2 secret levels) with arrows above their heads. It is these people they have the challenges for you to accomplish. Challenges range from pro scores to racing in a trolley. There is plenty of variety. There are 190 challenges all up and after you complete 90 you can attempt the Pro Challenge for each skater, which is an insanely tough task.
The game also has a multiplayer mode, create a stage and create a player. So there is plenty to do.I think they have done well to create another success in the THPS saga but I at the same time I think it is time to let it go. Leaving on a great note it better then releasing another one, which will be a flop.
Overall THPS4 is the best in the series and should be snapped up by Hawk fans and those who have never played one should definitely give it a try
Final Comments from Spag777 :
I enjoyed and still am enjoying this game. The revamped career mode is most welcomed and everything else is much the same as previous instalments. It is definitely time to hang up the skateboard though. Don’t wreck a great series by shoving another one down our throats.
