Well things just got interesting with this controller.
Earlier on we brought you a story regarding the interesting 3rd party SNES-themed Wii U Pro Controller coming to the Wii U at launch. The controller is already confirmed to be cheaper but now Amazon has let out some other unexpected information about the controller.
It now seems as though the controller is also a substitute for the Classic Controller used for Wii games, and because this controller has an IR sensor on the top edge of the controller, it also functions as a pointer that can interact with the Wii main menu and likely also in-game pointer controls.
This gives the Wii a proper wireless dual-analog controller and makes this seemingly basic Wii U controller a 1-stop controller that can be use for anything and everything on both Wii and Wii U. It would be a suitable option for Wii customers not yet upgrading to the Wii U.
It remains to be seen if the IR sensor and the analog sticks can work in the same way for FPS games like the Wii remote + Nunchuk combination, but we’ll be sure to let you know the moment we get our hands on one. The controller is available from EB Games at launch for a RRP of $49.9
