We’ve seen The Legend of Zelda series get a major reworking at this year’s E3, but what’s next for Super Mario? Well according to Shigeru Miyamoto, a “new kind” of Super Mario title could be on the way.
In an interview with IGN, Mr Miyamoto was asked about whether we could see Super Mario shook up in a similar was to Breath of the Wild. His response;
We’re always challenging ourselves to create something new, so hopefully you’ll see a new kind of Mario in about a year or two. Maybe next E3 we’ll be able to share something. It’s kind of difficult with Mario because some of the more important conventions of Mario are based on the approachability and accessibility of those games.
Miyamoto did admit that as new talent has joined the team, new ideas and a look at the games with “fresh eyes” means anything could happen.
We really haven’t seen Super Mario shook up since Super Mario Galaxy and the ‘New’ Super Mario Bros. games are getting a bit old hat. Especially since you can now make your own in Super Mario Maker.
What do you want to see from a “new kind” of Super Mario title?
Magnets, always with the magnets.
