The Super Nintendo PlayStation Prototype is finally turned on
A while back a SNES PlaySTation prototype was discovered out in the wild and many doubted it was even real. Well the time has come to prove them wrong as the system has been turned on and tested – and it works perfectly.
The system can play SNES cartridges just fine but no one will ever know if the CD system works as there wasn’t any games ever made for the console. The cartridges that were found alongside the system appear to be faulty.
The unit was shown off at the Retro.HK Expo by owner Dan Diebold and his Father Terry. We now know that Terry worked at a company called the Advanta Corporation. This company had from boss of Sony Interactive Entertainment, Olaf Olafsson as their CEO. The firm went bust and Terry bid at auction on some of Olafsson’s stuff including some kitchen wares – the SNES PlayStation was just a nice bonus. The whole lot went for just $75.
The two owners say they will never sell the console but instead may put into in a museum. No matter what happens to the device, it’s a big part of history and will remain a massive what if.
