The Playstation was Successful because…

Read my First Feature for the Site titled “The Playstation was Successful because…” See with you aggree or Dissagree with me 🙂 The Playstation (PS and PSone) was successful more so then the N64 for 2 Simple Reasons.

Reason A. Mainstream Appeal
Games based on movies and books were not new to the video game industry but pretty much every popular new movie had a game and it was mainly released on the PS. Which then everyone bought these games because it was the hot thing at the moment. Also sports and x-treme sports games were introduced that werent geeky or such; they were new games that anyone could pick up and play.

Sure the N64 had some of those games but with waiting times for new games only a few good games a month Quality over Quantity was Nintendo saying at that time if I remember correctly which basically killed the N64, Not to be Sony Bashing only the N64 did its fairs share of stuffed things which made it not as successful as it could have been. Meanwhile while Nintendo was sticking to that Sony and other Developers were pumping out games, games and more games they may not had the sparkle of Nintys games which were of better quality but because they again Mainstream and Pick-Up-and-Play Games they sold by the bucker load.

Reason B. Mod Chipping and Burning
98% percent of people I know had the PS Chipped and they Burnt Games. The reason the PS sold so well is because you could burn games and not have to pay for them SIMPLE AS THAT. The Mainstream appeal of the console also brought it out in the public for everyone to know and that increased the number of people buying it and then when they learnt they could copy games it was icing on the cake.

Australian people we being the cheap bastards we are, we dont like to pay for anything or if we can get it somewhere else on the cheap we will. Oh look Game A is coming out in a couple of Weeks is then followed by Naa I got that months ago from Bali, Friend, America, Any three of those things will do This action of burning games had thus cheapened the gaming experience. In the SNES days people would be saving up for there latest games go to EB or whatever and purchase there 99 dollar plastic brick take it home and honestly enjoy the games. Circa PS era get the Game burnt off your mate and go f*** Mate I wouldnt have paid for this and that last statement is true and was said to me regarding Metal Gear Solid. A Complete f***-wit was that person.

So basically the point of this ramble to was to A. Prove that the PSone was successful because the games could be copied and mainstream appeal. And that the PS have cheapened gaming experiences for everyone word wide.

I can only see this happening again with the PSP VS the GBA SP or NDS.
