The Last Story Competition Winners Announced
You told us your stories, now we will tell you one back one.
Let me tell you story, there was this time where the awesome people at Nintendo Australia offered a Nintendo website three copies of The Last Story to give away to its fair readers. Gleefully, we accepted and posed the question to our loyal and smart readers: “What be ye favourite role playing game?”. Tell us story, spin us a yarn. We want to hear about all of your fun.
The decision was hard, we had many entries. It’s a cliché but the all the stories and entries we received were great, so many good stories – We read them all many times to pick the winners, it wasn’t easy, after three hours of deliberating, the following stories are our winners;
Winner 1 – Leirith
In the preceding months, Luke had explored a large portion of the western half of Vvardenfell. Its flora and fauna had become as familiar as regular as the sandstorms that pummelled Ald’ruhn with unabated fury. Cliff Racers, the menacing reptiles of the sky, were agitating but commonplace. After months of integration, this Breton finally considered western Vvardenfell a home.
Diplomatic duties eventually called for a meeting with House Telvanni, necessitating a crossing of the perilous Red Mountain. When the volcanic ash and red sky that is the mountain’s namesake finally subsided, what emerged was entirely alien. Strange and wonderful new life inhabited this half of the landmass. Giant fungi spread about the coastline, and formed the basis of the various cities that House Telvanni held influence over. The architectural style of the cities were entirely integrated into these natural plant bodies, some of which formed winding walkways that resembled tendrils of some great beast. This land held more mystery and wonder than Luke had imagined, clearly there was still a great deal of exploring to be done on this island. What further mysteries awaited him?
Winner 2 – RaikRhythm
I sat up and glanced around. I sprang to my feet and scrambled up the small hill to my left. I reached the top and looked down; it fell away into a small body of water, fed by a waterfall gushing out of a cliff face. This was, I realised, the Rho Oasis. Somehow, I was on the Bionis.
Without another thought I dived straight into the water. No sooner had I resurfaced then, with a sudden lurch, I found myself sitting on a very high vantage point over what I recognised as Makna Falls. The water cascaded downwards in all directions, the spray creating a rainbow that stretched across the entire area.
In another split second I found myself standing just outside the city of Alcamoth in the Eryth Sea. Shooting stars were falling everywhere, lighting up the night sky. It was enchanting.
I heard a gentle sigh. Turning, I spotted Dunban, my favourite character, staring up at the stars. I hesitated, and then sat down beside him. We started to talk, and then couldn’t stop. We stayed up well into the night, until I felt that familiar pull and found myself sitting on my bed, clutching my classic controller.
Winner 3 – Ganon_Bond
Slam! The door shut to the room of my parents, silence fell over the house once again, I glanced at the alarm clock near my head – 12:42 I had a test in the morning, so I needed rest, but this took priority, I reached across in the dark towards my bedside table, fumbling for my DS… Aha! I silenced my excitement so as not to alert my parents, before slowly sliding the system towards me, I carefully clicked in the power button, feeling the soft white glow as the system turned on. I slowly turned the sound up until I could just hear it and began the game, I last saved right before the final showdown, minutes before the end of the game; it couldn’t simply wait until tomorrow, it had to be experienced now! I stared at the screen, eyes wide, going head to head with this final demon, the last obstacle standing between me and my inevitable victory. I struggled, but I kept alive and whittled away at the fell beast. After half an hour of intense battle I finally did it, I had beaten Chrono Trigger, a manly tear came to my eye as I watched the end credits roll.
Seriously you guys and girls are amazing, so many good entries and absolutely no dud ones. Everyone put their time and effort into it – We were blown away! All of the non-winner entries will be posted in the forum for you to look over, everyone needs to see these!
