At the moment with the Nintendo 3DS, despite the great communication features that are StreetPass and SpotPass theres no simple way to communicate with your friends on the console. Sure you can add a friend to your friend list, see what theyre playing, but no way to interact with them other than setting a Status Update. Having a simple messaging ability would help this along and the idea was recently floated to Nintendo 3DS producer Hideki Konno in an interview. His response was a vague but positive: “We are going to be making updates to the system, and I think that’s something that would be really interesting to do."
The Wiis had system to system messaging since day one so theres precedent for it. So will it be coming in May with the huge update announced for the system? Probably not. But it might still happen.
