The game is a 'Big Priority For Namco' says Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada.
When it was announced that not one, but two Namco Bandai studios were working on the new Super Smash Bros game, some were sceptical. After all, Smash Bros is serious business.
Namco Bandai though aren’t phased with Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada saying that the game is a ‘Big Priority For Namco’ and that “company-wide there are a lot of people involved with that particular project. Not just from Tekken but a lot of our franchises.”
Harada however then says that “Although our main core staff is busy with Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and trying to finish that up, I do think we’ll support the initiative in some kind of capacity”, indicating that not everyone is working on the game just yet, it is still being co-developed with Sora under the watchful eye of Sakurai.
So what about some Namco characters appearing in the game? Since the announcement Harada has been asked it many times, especially from western fans and he’s been asked the most if Tekken characters appear. He however, isn’t sure at the moment.
“We’re not really sure at this moment but when thinking of the playerbase who is playing Smash Bros, maybe Tekken characters is something they wouldn’t want, so I’ve been pulling back on that a bit. But I don’t know.”
