Tekken producer praises Wii U’s controller latency, thinking about second screen uses

Thinking about using the controller screen to remind you how to pull off sweet combos.

Keep forgetting Heihachi’s 10-move strings? Don’t know how on earth you’re supposed to play as a boxing kangaroo?! Then Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada might solve all your problems on the Wii U, which he’s been thinking about for a little while.

First and most importantly to him, the controller isn’t at all laggy to use, with a response time of less than one frame, which is 1/60th of a second for a 60 FPS game like Tekken. He admitted to Nintendo Gamer that while games running at 30 FPS might look a bit better, he thinks the 60 FPS difference is incomparable and said that although he didn’t feel Nintendo was going after the graphics market, the system is at least capable of making games on par with the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

He’s also been exploring more interesting ideas using the Wii U’s controller screens, such as displaying a move list and other learning tools. He said he often sees people playing fighting games with a strategy guide open on their lap and would like to open that option up to people less hardcore about the series.

Additionally, the controller seems to have brought out his silly side, as he’s been looking into using the touch screen to draw stuff on your characters and even let a friend modify the environment on the fly, such as drawing a brick wall.

I can’t wait to fight online against a kid who has just drawn penises all over poor Nina.
