In an interview about Tatsunoko vs. Capcom for Wii, Ryota Niitsuma has explained some areas of the game, and Capcoms future plans for the Wii.
He said that his team received a lot of requests for online play after the original Japanese release, and decided to include it in the next chance they got, which has turned out to be the Western release. He confirmed that the online multiplayer will have no region restrictions, also commenting that online play is a must for the Western nations due to their size.
Niitsuma explained that Tatsunoko was picked for the game for sentimental reasons, with its well known characters that many members of the design team grew up with. They did find it quite hard to get lots of the original theme music licenses for these characters, though, especially for the Western version. This meant they went through every character to decide whether or not it was worth the effort to include the music. The Western releases OST has been revised because of this.
It was apparently not a huge effort for the team to make the games great presentation run on the Wii; Niitsuma just commented that they made full use of the Wiis hardware, especially its GPU. The Wii will now also be Capcoms platform for standard definition fighting games, with them trying to introduce new players to the genre. Hopefully that means well be seeing more great efforts on their part for the system in the coming years.
We still dont have have a release date for the PAL version of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, though, but that isnt stunting out excitement towards this beautiful looking game.
