Switch, Zelda smash American Nintendo launch sales records
The American NPD charts for March have been released and its good news all round for the the Switch and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
During March Nintendo sold through 906,000 units making it “one of the fastest-selling video game systems of all time” and Nintendo’s fastest selling system in America.
As you can see in the chart below it wasn’t far off the other consoles, and this was in March!

The real interesting figures come from Breath of the Wild. It sold through 925,000 units on the Switch alone, that’s not a typo there’s more copies of Zelda out there than actual Switch consoles. Nintendo attributes this to people buying the game twice, possibly for the collectors edition.
The Wii U version sold 460,000 units which is still pretty impressive.
It will be interesting to see if Nintendo can maintain some momentum and get some more units into stores as the Switch is still supply constrained.

Promising start for the switch, but we all know how well the Wii U started off the mark too…yet I feel like there’s just enough games to stop that dreaded drought Wii u owners felt in the first year
