Switch could catch Wii sales trajectory this holiday – Kimishima

Will cruise past the Wii U anytime soon too.

The Switch is selling very well, but it’s still not selling as good as the Wii did. Nintendo believes that could change this holiday season. Nintendo has released a chart showing the sales trajectory of the Switch compared to the Wii and the Wii U. Don’t worry it’s totally smashing the Wii U, but the Wii? Not quite yet.

Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima say this is because Nintendo launched the Switch at a different time, outside the holidays where the Wii and Wii U were launched. Because of the impending holiday season, he thinks its possible for the Switch to soon match Wii sales.

This graph shows post-release Nintendo Switch sellthrough trends for the North American market. The above shows an overlay of sell-through figures together with Wii and Wii U data for the first years after release. While Wii and Wii U were released during the holiday season, it’s important to note that the Nintendo Switch launch was timed completely differently, in March. It now looks like holiday season sales for Nintendo Switch could catch up to the Wii figures.
