Fox, Final Destination, No Items. Can be yours.
The latest Super Smash Bros. flavoured Nintendo Direct has come and gone and dropped a ton of information on our laps. A large part of the Direct was focused on the new modes and features in the online modes.
As expected and announced, both the Wii U and 3DS versions of the game will have full online multiplayer between friends and as well as random players.
There are two new modes for random online play now, ‘For Fun’ and ‘For Glory’. The ‘For Fun’ mode will be your classic everyday Smash with random levels, all items enabled, Smash Battles only and online wins will be recorded. No Final Destination will be available in this mode. ‘For Glory’ mode is ‘hardcore’ Smash; Final Destination only, no items, 1-on-1 battles available and both wins and losses will be recorded.
Final Destination has changed though, instead of the old ‘floating stage in space’ stage with the same soundtrack, each stage now has a ‘Final Destination’ mode. It reduces the level down to a single floating platform, just with a different stage’s theme. This was changed to allow people who want to play ‘For Glory’ to hear all the game’s new music and see the stages.
Games with friends can be customised any way you like, stock battles, time battles and on any stage you like. Sakurai recommended the Wii LAN Adapter during the presentation as well for the Wii U version of the game. Wireless isn’t the best for fighting games.
To make the online in Super Smash Bros. more enjoyable than ever before, Sakurai has some new ideas in place. Anonymous battles are no more, everyone will have their Nintendo Network ID visible and there will be a Code of Conduct in place.
Sakurai is looking at ways to cut out unattended matches, players who relentlessly target the same opponent, repeated self destructs, people who drop from matches and people who are using hacks or modifications may be banned. You’re also likely to get in trouble baselessly reporting players.
With this renewed focus with online you might be expecting leaderboards. Well don’t because Sakurai and his team has a more interesting idea, dubbed the ‘Global Smash Power’.
This will act as a score to show how ‘powerful’ you are online. The bigger the number the more people you have ‘outscored’, although this number increases only through single player.
It's Black, Back Again.
If these aren't the coolest graphics...
