Nintendo have quietly released new update data for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and it’s purported to add new stages to the game. But before you get too excited, they appear to be already existing stages that have been given the “switch” to allow 8 player smash to take place on them. While they’re not necessarily designed for such a mode, we’re sure they’ll be fun to play on regardless.

The update adds roughly fifteen stages to 8 player smash, comprising of both normal layouts and omega layouts.

Normal

  • Mario Circuit (Brawl)
  • Luigi’s Mansion
  • Pyrosphere
  • Norfair
  • Lylat Cruise
  • Pokémon Stadium 2
  • Town and City
  • Smashville
  • Wii Fit Studio

We’d love to see how 8 people would try to fit into the safety zones during those Norfair lava waves, oh boy. The update also adds six omega layouts to 8 player smash.

Omega

  • Mario Galaxy
  • Mario Circuit (Brawl)
  • The Great Cave Offensive
  • Lylat Cruise
  • Pokémon Stadium 2
  • Town and City

Perhaps more interesting about this is what it implies – could Nintendo be working on newer DLC for Smash Bros. in the immediate future? We know we’ve got Mewtwo coming sometime soon but is that all? We’re perched to see.

Will you be trying out the new stages?
