Super Smash Bros. 4 Details Revealed

Sakurai lets slip a few minor details about control methods and cameo characters.

In an interview with gaming website IGN, Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai has spoken about staying away from unnecessary features and too many non-Nintendo characters, feeling that the latter will take away from the core focus of the game.

Speaking about how the ‘game system’ itself is essentially complete, Sakurai wishes to avoid 3D support or complicated control methods for the sake of it. Sakurai is, however, looking into ways SSB4 can support a, “slightly different, fun experience all the while keeping the usual frantic game play.”

Sakurai has also shot down the notion of more cameo characters in SSB4, along the lines of Snake and Sonic on the Wii’s Brawl. “I think Snake and Sonic joining were fantastic,” he added. “It made many fans happy, and it broadened the Smash Bros arena. However, introducing more non-Nintendo characters willy-nilly will lose the focus of the game, so I also recognise the need to narrow it down.” However, that’s not to say an extra one or two characters from different franchises might make their way into the game. Capcom’s Ryu and Mega Man, anyone?

Super Smash Bros. 4 will hopefully be out next year, on both the 3DS and Wii U.
