Super Mario Odyssey Announced for Nintendo Switch
One of the games confirmed during the Switch Event was the 3D platformer Super Mario Odyssey, and this time Mario is going to some strange and unknown places.
It was said that Super Mario Odyssey is the first open-world exploration 3D Mario title since Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine. Although some of the places are unknown to Mario, they certainly look familiar to us. The first area shown was a sprawling inner city, akin to New York. I have to say, Mario looks very out of place. Not just here, but in all the new locations. It’s impressive to see Mario looking at his surroundings as he explores these strange new lands.
We see some familiar moves in the trailer too, such as the pelvic thrusting long jump, wall kicks and hanging, along with some new skills, like rolling, dancing and hat jumping, where Mario throws his hat like a frisbee and uses it as a platform.
The story this time around is… Well, it appears Princess Peach has been kidnapped by Bowser and he is trying to force her to marry him. Oh, and Mario’s iconic hat appears to be alive. With those two beady eyes, I don’t know how comfortable I’d be jumping on it.
Super Mario Odyssey is scheduled for a holiday 2017 release.
