Super Mario Maker 2 launches on June 28th
Back in February, Nintendo announced Super Mario Maker 2 for Nintendo Switch, a full-fledged sequel to the instant Wii U classic Super Mario Maker. Now, we have a date.
Nintendo announced today that Super Mario Maker 2 will launch on the Nintendo Switch on Friday, the 28th of June. Sadly, no new features were shown off today, but given the game’s post-E3 launch date, we can probably expect a bit of an information blowout during Nintendo’s E3 Direct.

It adds to a swathe of Nintendo-published releases in the second half of the year, with the June/July period being a particularly busy time of year — Super Mario Maker 2 launches on June 28th, Dragon Quest Builders 2 launches on July 12th, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 launches on July 19th, and Fire Emblem: Three Houses launches on July 26th. It’s certainly a stacked Winter lineup, and it begs the question — with so many titles planned for such a short amount of time, what else does Nintendo have up their sleeves?
The announcement also comes just before Nintendo’s Q4 financial reporting for fiscal year 2018/2019, which is undoubtedly no coincidence. Perhaps we’ll get a better idea of what’s to come in a few hours time.
