As the 2016 Rio Olympics draws to a close, the focus is now on Tokyo. During the closing ceremony the torch was passed in the most awesome way.

A video of Mario appeared on-screen, navigating his way to Rio via a warp-pipe. However then on the other side of the Warp Pipe Japan’s Prime Minister, Shinzō Abe  appeared donning Mario’s signature cap as the end-level celebration music from Super Mario Bros. played. There was of course fireworks.

Due to the weird copyright restrictions around Olympic footage, here’s a bunch of tweets that feature parts of it.

Also as a bonus, for some reason – Nintendo’s stocks went up.
