Star Wars Expanded Universe changes mean Star Wars games no longer canon

The Force remains leashed.

Next to the main six Star Wars movies there’s always been the The Star Wars Expanded Universe. The Expanded Universe or EU as its colloquially known told the story before and after the main movies, until now.

The now Disney owned Lucasfilm has announced that only the six Star Wars movies and the Clone Wars television show are canon. Any thing else Star Wars that’s happened in comics, books and even video games is just a “Legend”. That’s the new name for the old expanded universe titles.

That means there never really was a Rouge Squadron, the Force remained Leashed and the Shadows of the Empire were gone under the sun at high noon.

From now on, Lucasfilm says “all aspects of Star Wars storytelling moving forward will be connected.” All new content to be created in the universe will be checked out by a team to make sure it fits within the new movies.

Jedi Knight, Rouge Squadron, Shadows of the Empire, Force Unleashed and  Knights of the Old Republic may not be ‘real’ now but our memories of them will be at least.
