If Super Mario 3D World wasn’t already shaping up to be one of the most chock-full Mario games yet, Nintendo have shared ten more things we have to look forward to in Super Mario 3D World.
Be warned, there are spoilers contained within this text and the trailer.
It was already known that the Gamepad touchscreen can be used to reveal hidden objects in the world but the first new feature shown was the use of the built-in microphone. The example used was blowing into the mic to fend off a small army of Goombas on the attack. As a kind of throw back to the coin ship from Super Mario Bros. 3, a new coin train will make an appearance. Called the Golden Express, it is a speeding train overflowing with coins for Mario and friends to collect.
Some special stages featuring Toad will task players in collecting five green stars without jumping. Being the staple move in Mario games, this could prove to be quite challenging. Speed Run levels will make a return, giving players just 100 seconds to make it to the flagpole. Also returning from Super Mario 3D Land on the 3DS, Mystery Houses will be short rapid challenges to complete for a green star.
The Motley Boss Blob stages will see multiple Marios controlled by one player taking on a giant boss. Keeping up with the new stage types, Boomerang Mario will appear in a top down shooter style course, with scores of enemies trying to bring the player down. A Mario Kart themed stage will see players racing through a track on foot while trying to hit as many boost pads as possible to come in first.
Continuing on with the Year of Luigi, owners of New Super Luigi U will get a special unlockable version of the original Mario Bros. Game, decked out Luigi style no less. Not only is the name of the game changed to Luigi Bros. But Mario’s sprite has been turned into another Luigi! Finally it was revealed that there is a fifth unlockable character to play as.
Rosalina from Super Mario Galaxy will be made available as a playable character and brings a special spin attack move with her. Brimming with lots of new features and more powerups than ever, this looks to be one of Mario and friend’s biggest adventure yet. Super Mario 3D World is due for release on November 30th.
Get in quick, they go fast.
