Splatoon to get free DLC “every few weeks”, and a Friendly update in August
The Splatoon Direct might have been a splattering of information, but thankfully, all of it was great! While the game will ship with just 5 maps on launch, Nintendo are planning to add more maps every few weeks, as well as new game types- including a “reverse tug of war” game type called Tower Control, that plays similarly to Team Fortress 2’s Payload mode. Another gametype called Rainmaker was also teased, but we have no idea what it contains!
And while you might be excited to play Ranked matches online, the Ranked playlist requires you to be at least level 10. So for more people to get there, Ranked mode will be coming later on! And as well as all the maps and gamemodes, plenty of gear, Splatoon’s name for the clothes and headgear, will make a ton of splashes over time! Did I mention this is all free?
So all of this should add some longevity to the game, but wait, there’s more! In August, a free update will add option to play with friends. One option will let you and three friend form a team, and match up against another team of 4 online. Another will have 8 friends jumble around, so don’t get too used to your teammates being on your side, lest they become horrifying opponents!
