Spider-Man 2 (Gamecube) Review

Introduction
Spiderman 2 as the name suggest is the sequel to the 2002 game, based around the second movie this time, the game pretty much takes off a couple of years or month after the first movie and game. Spiderman is taking up more and more of Peter Parkers time, with Peter having to fulfil the Job of any normal super heroes, there is not much left in his life for College, Friends, work and more importantly Mary Jane. So buckle down for some more spidy fun.

Graphics
At first glance the graphics for this game look worse then the first one, with the first shots of the game only loading just as it reaches it however the games movies uses FMV later on and not the games engine which is very robust. The difference between the first and second game soon comes apparent the minute you hit the ground, yes this time you can actually walk pretty much all of Manhattan, and with this Treyarch have had to make not as impressive graphics as some of the other games out there, not to say this all entirely bad as. The games interface is also very different to the first game were as the first game had Red Black and Silver which tied into the movie this time its the more comic Spiderman Style with Blues, Yellow and silver very much like earlier Spiderman games on other consoles.

Sounds
As you would expect from a licensed game the music aint that bad. With the well know Spidey Theme in the background there when the action heats up. All the Characters voices in the game are played by there respected actors, however there voices do sound a bit off but nothing detracting from the main game. The whole city of Manhattan is also well supported sound wise with wise cracks and yelling coming up from the street directed towards Spiderman.

Gameplay
As I’ve explained before you can now freely move around New York, youll have to ask someone who lives there but I think its fully mapped out and Ive just read it is so fully mapped out and if you lived in New York (why?) you could find you own house, or climb up the Empire State Building. The Games levels are not nearly as straight-forward as the original. You now have more freedom to swing around, taking on mini-quests and side-objectives to help out the local community and fulfil Spidermans neighbourhood friendly image. As a result, Manhattan seems a lot bigger and more alive this time around.

Also another addition to the game is now you must have some where to anchor you web before you can swing on it the first time around it just put it in the air and you couldnt swing or just dangle on it this time you do that and also you have you press the R trigger everything you want to come out. Fret not if there is no where to swing as you use the side of buildings to jump to and fro. Also the jump function has been improved you being able to jump huge distances good for getting of the floor of Manhattan.

Value/Difficulty
The Difficulty of the game well lets just say confusing its not like you have to struggle to learn the controls but you put right into the game and even with a basic tutorial you will still be wondering how to do this and that. With the whole the movie to play through you’ll be playing this for a while however just cruising around New York will keep you entertained for a while.

Overall Spiderman 2 is not a ground breaking game however it does what most sequals dont and this is improve on the first game. Definently worth a rent if you have’nt bought it already.
