Sonic Classic Collection officially announced
Remember that BBFC rating from last month? Well, SEGA has finally spoken about the compilation, and its definitely for the DS
It wasnt too long ago that a rating for Sonic Classic Collection was found, and most thought, based on the number of games mentioned and the Sonic Chronicles video, that it would be a DS title. Today SEGA have confirmed both the game and platform, with the collection hitting stores for DS in March 2010.
As far as features are concerned, pretty much everything guessed from the original rating is there, but some other nifty bits were explained. The compilation includes the first four Mega Drive titles in the series—Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Sonic & Knuckles—and even allows you to save at any time! This has never been available for the original series and will suit the handheld audience well. Video footage and collectable images of the franchise are some of the extras included in the package.
“The phenomenal successes of the original Sonic games are the pillar of today’s Sonic brand recognition,” says Gary Knight, European Marketing Director at SEGA Europe. “Sonic Classic Collection for DS will allow a new audience to enjoy a timeless collection of games, whilst older Sonic fans can revel in the nostalgia of playing their favourite Sonic titles. It’s a perfect amalgamation of heritage and new generation entertainment.”
The only thing were not sure about is whether the "lock-on" feature from Sonic & Knuckles that expands the second and third games in the series is present in this version. Weve contacted SEGA about it and will let you know when we hear back.
