A SEGA representative at Madrid’s 2010 Game expo has revealed the existence and details of Sonic Anniversary as well as confirming that there shall be a new game in the Mario & Sonic series.
Sonic Anniversary is a compilation of sorts which is slated to take the best classic levels in the Sonic series and update them for current generation consoles. Sourcing the levels from the original Sonic the Hedgehog’s Green Hill Zone, right through to Sonic Adventure 2 means that SEGA will integrate both 2D and 3D levels into the title. How exactly the levels present will be updated remains a mystery. The game is finding its way to Wii and DS, which will please our readers. In addition the game is coming to both Playstation 3 and PSP, and an XBOX360 version is expected – although one has not been confirmed at this time. Hopefully SEGA will utilise this opportunity to include some content from Sonic CD; a game that has not been played by the majority of gamers, Sonic fans included.
The previous two Mario & Sonic games coincided with both the last summer and winter Olympics and one would think this next title will be in line, both thematically in its content and timely in its release, with the summer games that are to be held in London, 2012. However little has been revealed about this title, and it could very well be something completely different such as a platformer or a party game. We await more details on this one.
More news on both these titles will hopefully follow soon, as SEGA are likely to make some official statements now that the cat is out of the bag.
