The mystery behind the unexplained five metre mound of bananas in Sydney has finally been solved. The hoard belongs to one of the world’s most loved gorillas, Donkey Kong, after the evil Tiki Tak Tribe stole them from Donkey Kong Island overnight. The two tonne mound consisting of 10,000 bananas was found just outside Customs House, Circular Quay, Sydney by an early commuter who notified Nintendo.

“We are so relieved the stash of bananas has been found. Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong have been hunting all over Australia for their stolen bananas!” said Nintendo spokesperson Heather Murphy.

Clues of Donkey Kong’s Australian adventure began popping up over night when a massive bite out of the world’s biggest banana was reported in Coffs Harbour. “The residents of Coffs Harbour woke up this morning to discover a big chunk taken out of our iconic landmark,” said the Big Banana’s General Manager Drew Grove. “We’re happy Donkey Kong finally found his stolen bananas and that during his search, he got a chance to appreciate how delicious Coffs Harbour bananas truly are!”

Nintendo wants all of Sydney to celebrate the find by coming down to the hoard of bananas to play Donkey Kong Country Returns on the massive outdoor movie screen from 5:30pm this evening.

Sydney residents are also being asked to bring a big bag down to Customs House to take home the bananas. Think how many smoothies, banana bread loafs or puddings you could make with two tonnes of bananas!

Nintendo is donating any leftover bananas to OzHarvest, a not for profit organisation that rescues excess food and delivers it to people in need.
