Smash Direct: Ken, Incineroar revealed as new fighters, Piranha Plant for preorders
The Smash Bros Direct is over and we now know the full roster of the game, at least the ones that will be there in the game on day one.
Fighters
Both Street Fighter’s Ken and the Pokemon Incineroar were revealed in the Direct bringing the roster total to 74. That wasn’t the final fighter to be revealed with a surprise inclusion of Pirahna Plant who will be added to the game as DLC at a later date. If you preorder the game however you’ll get him for free.
The Super #SmashBros Ultimate Fighters Pass will give access to all DLC as it becomes available: 5 fighters, 5 stages and their music tracks. It also includes a bonus Mii Swordfighter outfit based on Rex from #XenobladeChronicles2. pic.twitter.com/ZVuIeiZ6X5

Sakurai also revealed DLC plans for the game but stressed these could take a while as they have to build this from scratch. The characters DLC will be sold either as a “Fighters Pass”, or you can buy them individually. Each of these unannounced fighters will come with a corresponding stage and items.
The Super #SmashBros Ultimate paid DLC has yet to be created. Work on the DLC will start as soon as the main game has been finished, and all sets will be available by the end of February 2020.

Pricing was announced for other regions, each fighter will be AU$7.80 / NZ$10.20, and the pass for all 5 characters and the Rex Mii Swordfighter is AU$32.50 / NZ$42.50.
amiibo
All the new fighters, including the ones announced today, will also be getting amiibo, they’ll be out at various stages. All dates below are the Australian release dates.
assists
A whole bunch of new assists were also confirmed, which meant a lot of characters people wanted as fighters obviously missed the cut. Here’s a selection from the ones confirmed in the Direct.
There will be a total of 59 different assist trophies.
If you missed the Direct, here it is in all its glory.
You mean the characters come with music, not items, right?
And I’m sad that the only XC2 represetation will be a Mii fighter. At least there will be music, but I wanted a playable character from XC2, given Sakurai seems to have loved that game. There aren’t enough stages to play its music on, so we need a couple more of those, too…
I wanted swappable Pyra/Mythra, but I’d have settled for a Rex.
This was the main thing that I was disappointed about from the direct. Everything else was awesome. Fingers crossed we’ll get some more XC2 love in the dlc.
Er, I believe that Piranha Plant was advertised as an “early purchase” as opposed to a “pre-order” bonus. I assume that any purchases made prior to a specified date will be eligible (and physical purchases will be verified by redeeming the gold coins to an NNID, similarly to how the Club Nintendo code was used to redeem Mewtwo in Smash 3DS/Wii U).
