Probably because it is coming out soon in Japan (due on October 29 there), Famitsu has a feature on Sin & Punishment 2 in this weeks issue which reveals some more facts about the game, including the story.

The sequel has you play the son of Saki and Airan from the first game, Isa Jo, who is on a mission to destroy Kachi, an amnesiac girl, on another version of Earth. It isnt too long, however, before both start working together to default a "common menace".

"Its not that we particularly had a sequel in mind from the beginning," said head of Treasure, Masato Maegawa. "The idea behind [the original] project was basically to make a game that used the left-hand position on the Nintendo 64 controller, since not too many other games did that. When the Wii came out, we felt like we just had to tackle it again — its not like weve been sitting on this idea for nine years, but the simplest reason for this sequel is because the Wii came out."

Length is another area that this game has been changed, with the project director at Nintendo, Hitoshi Yamagami, giving us an idea about the length. "You cant really compare the number of stages," he said,"as theyre all different sizes, but in terms of playtime its easily twice the size [of the original]."

Masato Maegawa also commented on what genre fits the game. "We concepted(sic) out this game as an arcade-like title," he explained, "but if you made a game this long for the arcades, the operators would kill us. Its arcade-style, yes, but in terms of volume, its a different story."

In a addition to the multiple difficulty modes typical of Treasure, several gameplay mechanics have been changed in the sequel. "You used to basically stick to the ground," commented the director of the game, Atsutomo Nakagawa, "but youll be able to move in the air now as well. There are two player characters now, too, and to make that more enjoyable they have different skills in terms of how their charged shots and lock-on systems work."

Sin & Punishment 2 is currently slated for a Q1 2010 release.
