Shock Horror: Classification issues holding back Nindies @ Home in Australia

Please understand.

Yesterday both Nintendo of America and Europe announced the Nindies@Home programme. It’s a new promotion where a range of great indie demos have been added to the eShop and if you play them before a date in June you’ll get 15% off the game should you chose to buy it.

The bad news, its not coming to Australia (or New Zealand) at least not yet. If you guessed it was classification issues that were holding back the games you guessed correctly. Demos in Australia have to be classified before release and we all know how expensive that is, no one is going to classify a demo.

The good news is that Nintendo Australia are working on it and with the developers of the games to make it happen in Australia. It probably won’t be until after E3 and we believe it may feature different games but it should happen… eventually.

Nintendo’s statement is below;

The Nindies@Home programme has been announced by Nintendo in North America and Europe, where fans can access free preview versions of nine Nindie games from Nintendo eShop for Wii U for a limited time.

Down Under, unlike America and Europe, game demos need to be officially classified before their release, therefore in this region we require more time for these titles to be made available.

We are currently working with the developers to make it happen in Australia and New Zealand.

We thank you for being patient. Please stay tuned for further
updates!
